Lisa Kay Adams; child of God; loving wife, mother, daughter, daughter-in-law, sister, aunt, niece, and friend; entered her eternal home on Saturday, August 11, 2018.  Lisa was born in Miami, Florida on March 8, 1964.  She graduated from Valley Christian High School (Cerritos, California) and Calvin College (Grand Rapids, Michigan).  She met her husband, Mike Adams, while at Calvin and served her country as a Navy wife in California, Puerto Rico and South Carolina.  After the Navy, Lisa, Mike and their three children, Tanya, Nikki, and Dan, lived in Fort Wayne, and for the past 18 years, in Grand Rapids.
Lisa lived a quiet life, devoted to her LORD, her family and her work as a tutor coordinator at Sherwood Park Elementary School.  She preferred to lead by example and avoided being the center of attention.  By her actions, Lisa taught us many things, especially during the past several years.  She taught us how to live, in spite of metastatic cancer; how to care for one’s family, even when you hurt; and most of all, Lisa taught us that we are loved and cared for by our LORD and Savior, even during hard times.
Lisa was preceded in death by her father, the Rev. Clarence Nyenhuis.  In addition to her husband and children, Lisa leaves an empty space in the lives of her mother, Arlene Nyenhuis; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Sherman and Emily Adams; her sister, Carla Tapanes (Carlos); her brothers, Steve Nyenhuis (Valerie) and David Nyenhuis (Beth) and her brothers and sisters by marriage, John and Barbara Adams and Kevin and Gerry Adams, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
A time to visit and care for Lisa’s family is scheduled for Wednesday, August 15, from 2 – 4 PM and from 6 – 8 PM at Encounter Church,  4620 Kalamazoo Avenue, SE, Kentwood, 49508.  A celebration of Lisa’s life will take place at the church on Friday, August 17, at 1:00, led by the Rev. Kevin Adams and Rev. Dirk Van Eyk, followed by a time of food and fellowship.  A graveside service, led by the Rev. Carlos Tapanes, will be limited to family. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Lisa’s name may be made to Potter’s House School.
We lift our eyes to the mountains – where does our help come from?  Our help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth….The LORD will watch over our coming and going, both now and forevermore.   Psalm 121: 1, 2 and 8.

I am just now seeing this, and I am so sorry for your loss. I was one of the Schools of Hope tutors at Sherwood Park, and I worked with Lisa for six years. She was great at her job and a pleasure to work with. I have missed seeing her there. May your happy memories of Lisa comfort you.

Mike, My heart and prayers go out to you and all of your family and friends. Though I only knew Lisa briefly she was always smiling and joking with her sister or daughter when I saw her. She was a beautiful soul who has left a beautiful legacy to live on in her memory. If there is anything at all I can do or help with at this time please let me know. With love and jam, Jen

Mrs. Adams, you were like a second mom to me during my years at Calvin. I am so grateful to have known you. Your laughter and love filled every room you stepped into. You would roll your eyes and sigh whenever Tanya and I made crazy comments/goofy things but we know you admired us all the while 😉. Love you and miss you so dearly. Glad you are free of pain and suffering. May you be dancing in glory now!

Mike, I am so sorry for your loss. Given the many years we have worked together and the many Michigan games we have attended, I have come to love you like a brother. I cannot imagine the sorrow and emptiness that you and your family are experiencing. Having been blessed to care for Lisa while she was going through her cancer journey, I did begin to understand the depth of her faith and the love that she had for you, Tanya, Nikki, and Dan. She certainly had a spirit of which I certainly enjoyed being a part. She will truly be missed. I will continue to keep you and your family in my prayers. God bless you my friend.

Mike and family, I'm so sorry for the empty space left in your life, but I celebrate that Lisa is no longer in pain or suffering-not that she let on too much when I spent time with her. She was always cheerful and optimistic, despite her pain. She will be missed. Praying for you all! Betsy

Lisa, you were not willing to give up until the end. You fought hard so you could be with your family. I will miss the sounds of your laughter and seeing your cheerful smile. I will miss the times I would text with you while I was getting ready for work - me in California and you in Michigan. I will miss going out for pie and ice cream with you. I thank God you are no longer in pain. Give Dad a big hug from us. Love from your big brother, Steve
