Lisa Kay Adams

Lisa Kay Adams; child of God; loving wife, mother, daughter, daughter-in-law, sister, aunt, niece, and friend; entered her eternal home on Saturday, August 11, 2018.  Lisa was born in Miami, Florida on March 8, 1964.  She graduated from Valley Christian High School (Cerritos, California) and Calvin College (Grand Rapids, Michigan).  She met her husband, Mike Adams, while at Calvin and served her country as a Navy wife in California, Puerto Rico and South Carolina.  After the Navy, Lisa, Mike and their three children, Tanya, Nikki, and Dan, lived in Fort Wayne, and for the past 18 years, in Grand Rapids.
Lisa lived a quiet life, devoted to her LORD, her family and her work as a tutor coordinator at Sherwood Park Elementary School.  She preferred to lead by example and avoided being the center of attention.  By her actions, Lisa taught us many things, especially during the past several years.  She taught us how to live, in spite of metastatic cancer; how to care for one’s family, even when you hurt; and most of all, Lisa taught us that we are loved and cared for by our LORD and Savior, even during hard times.
Lisa was preceded in death by her father, the Rev. Clarence Nyenhuis.  In addition to her husband and children, Lisa leaves an empty space in the lives of her mother, Arlene Nyenhuis; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Sherman and Emily Adams; her sister, Carla Tapanes (Carlos); her brothers, Steve Nyenhuis (Valerie) and David Nyenhuis (Beth) and her brothers and sisters by marriage, John and Barbara Adams and Kevin and Gerry Adams, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
A time to visit and care for Lisa’s family is scheduled for Wednesday, August 15, from 2 – 4 PM and from 6 – 8 PM at Encounter Church,  4620 Kalamazoo Avenue, SE, Kentwood, 49508.  A celebration of Lisa’s life will take place at the church on Friday, August 17, at 1:00, led by the Rev. Kevin Adams and Rev. Dirk Van Eyk, followed by a time of food and fellowship.  A graveside service, led by the Rev. Carlos Tapanes, will be limited to family. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Lisa’s name may be made to Potter’s House School.
We lift our eyes to the mountains – where does our help come from?  Our help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth….The LORD will watch over our coming and going, both now and forevermore.   Psalm 121: 1, 2 and 8.
