Wubbina “Ann” Mennega

Wubbina “Ann” Mennega, age 91, of Grandville, was called to her heavenly home on Friday, February 5, 2021. She was preceded in death by her parents, Egbert and Grietje Mennega; brother, Al Mennega; sisters-in-law, Betty Mennega, Joan Mennega; and brother-in-law, Lyle Christensen. She will be lovingly remembered by her siblings, Harry (Dianna) Mennega, Gertrude Christensen, Grace (Jim) Wilms; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Ann came over from the Netherlands at the age of 21. She graduated from the Pine Rest Nursing Program, Blodgett Memorial School of Nursing, and went on to obtain a Bachelor of Science Degree from Calvin College and a Master’s Degree in Nursing from The University of Texas. She joined the U.S. Army Nurse Corps during the Vietnam War and remained on active duty in the U.S. Army for 22 years, retiring as a full Colonel. Ann served at posts in San Francisco, Japan, Columbia (South Carolina), San Antonio, Korea, Louisiana, and Heidelberg (Germany). Ann will be remembered as a loving, caring person. She was always hospitable, always ready to help when she saw a need, both in and out of the family circle. Ann loved her pets as well as animals in general. The family would like to thank the staff of the Rose Garden for the loving care she received for the last several years. A special thanks to her loving and caring niece, Melinda Koetje. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 12, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW with Pastor Kenneth McGee officiating. The burial will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends may meet the family Friday from 1-2 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.
