
Winifred “Win” (Westendorp) DeVries joined her Lord and Savior for flowers and chocolate in heaven on February 14, 2022. An avid gardener and engaging lecturer, Win is fondly remembered for her passion for her grandchildren, witty sense of humor, love of reading and quilting, and her world-renown brownies. Win owned and operated Ottawa-Kent Perennial Gardens with her husband and family for 47 years. The miracle of planting and tending seeds that grew into beautiful plants never ceased to amaze her. Win was born December 19,1938. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Susan Faye DeVries; her parents, John and Bertha Westendorp; brothers-in-law, Rev. Gordon Stuit, Dr. Daniel Hendriksen, Tony Akkerman, and Chuck Hildebrand; and sister-in-law, Clare Westendorp. She is survived by her loving husband, Fred; children, Roland and Janet DeVries, Rod and Theresa DeVries, and Mike and Marie Bader; grandchildren, Natalie and Ben Vanderwater, Adam Devries and Amber Scmidt, Hannah DeVries and Christian Williams, Sara and Nick Hardin, Brett Bader, and Brooke Bader; great-grandchildren, Maddisyn, Michael, Wyatt, and Julia Vanderwater; siblings, Lu and Pierce VanAlten, Sylvia Stuit, Dr. Floyd Westendorp, and Shirley Hendriksen; as well as Fred’s siblings, Joyce Akkerman, Larry and Lois DeVries, Betty Hildebrand, and Jack and Pat DeVries. Win graduated from Grand Rapids Christian High School and attended Calvin College. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2022, at 3 p.m.at Westview Christian Reformed Church, 2929 Leonard St. NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504. Relatives and friends may meet the family Saturday from 2-3 p.m. prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Faith Hospice.
