William “Bill” Smits

William “Bill” Smits, age 86, of Jenison, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, June 5, 2020. Bill was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. He loved playing tennis, bowling, and was one of the best partridge hunters. Bill enjoyed serving as a deacon and head usher at his church for many years. He was preceded in death by his brothers-in-law, John Kampstra, and Tom Dracht. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 66 years, Nancy Smits; children, Sally and Roger Meyer, Greg Smits, Pam and Phil Kuyers; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sisters and brother, Winona Dracht, Esther Kampstra, Marianne and Norm Shamery, Donna and Bob Mingerink, Nancy and Larry Berry, and Bob Smits; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Larry and Greta Bruursma, Ken and Sandy Brown, and Henry and Lois DeVries; and several nieces and nephews. A private graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2020, at Georgetown Township Cemetery with Pastor Don Van Slyke officiating.  Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Baldwin Street Christian Reformed Church - Missions.
