Wayne Underwood

Wayne Underwood, age 70, of Grand Rapids, was taken to his heavenly home on Tuesday, July 4, 2017. He was preceded in death by his siblings; Fleet Underwood and Rebecca Doehring. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 30 years, Debra; his children Will, Lydia (Mark Fries), and Lela Rose; sister, Karen (Jack) Elston, many nieces and nephews, cousins, and close friends. Wayne was a gregarious, generous man who loved his family and spending time with them. He would easily make friends everywhere he went and came to be known as the “King”. He enjoyed sports including U of M football and Detroit Tigers baseball. Wayne founded and managed a women’s softball team and was inducted into the USA Softball of Michigan Hall of Fame in 1997 for his service as the team manager. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 15, 11 am at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Kentwood) 4646 Kalamazoo Ave. SE, with Pastor Jason Elston officiating. Relatives and friends may meet the family Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the funeral home.
