Walter H. Lutkenhoff passed away peacefully into eternal life surrounded by his devoted children on Tuesday, May 8, 2018. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 years, Marie; his brother, Robert Lutkenhoff and his sister, Clare Effler. He is survived by his children, David (Sarah) Lutkenhoff, Deborah (David) Alderink, Douglas (Sandy) Lutkenhoff, Janet (Mark) Smith and Mark (Melinda) Lutkenhoff; grandchildren, Emily (Michael) Nail, John Lutkenhoff, Travis (Kelly) Alderink, Kiel (Savannah) Alderink, Douglas Jr. (Danielle) Lutkenhoff, Tiffany (Rick) Kelel, Taryn (Tyler) Ostrom, Courtney (Josh) Strangway, Kayleigh (Evan) Bedell, Jacyln (Chris) Wolf, Jacob (Danielle) Smith, Lindsey, Ashley, Sam, and Nate Lutkenhoff; great grandchildren, Chloe, Ava and Ethan Strangway, Cecilia and Dean Wolf, Donovan Alderink, Maree Alderink, Kasen and Carter Kelel, Maddox Ostrom and two more on the way. He is also survived by his brother, Donald (JoAnn) Lutkenhoff; sister-in-law, Ida Suprenant; brother-in-law, Frank (Jeannine) Motolo; as well as many nieces and nephews. Walter was a proud WWII Veteran having served as a paratrooper in the Army 82nd Airborne Division and was a recipient of the American Theater Ribbon, EAME Theater Ribbon, Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, and WWII Victory Medal. The family would like to give special thanks to Hospice of West Michigan for their support for both Marie and Walter, as well as the whole family. A visitation will be held Thursday from 5-7:30 pm at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4646 Kalamazoo Ave SE, Kentwood, with a Rosary Service to follow. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday 11 am at St. Mary Magdalen Church, 1253 52nd St. SE with Father Peter Vu celebrant. Immediately following the Mass a Military Service will take place with lunch to follow. Entombment will be held at Resurrection Cemetery, 4100 Clyde Park SW, Wyoming. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Little Sisters of the Poor or Hospice of Michigan.
