Vivian DeKoning

Vivian Arlene DeKoning, age 96, of Jenison, passed away peacefully to be with her Lord on Monday, March 23, 2026.

Vivian was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was kind, capable, and humble in spirit. 

Vivian was born in Chicago, Illinois, and attended Chicago Christian High School. She continued her education at Calvin College, where she met her beloved husband, Bob. Both pursued degrees in education, sharing a deep passion for helping students learn and grow.

Throughout her life, Vivian faithfully served others, volunteering with various organizations and through her church. Her deep faith was the foundation of her life, and she carried a sincere love for the Lord in all she did.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, Robert “Bob” DeKoning; grandson, Brian Terhorst; sisters, Gladys and Lester DeVries, Marilyn and Jim Althof, Nancy and Pete Tuinstra. She will be dearly missed by her children, Pat and Randy TerHorst, Jane and Larry VanderVeen, Cindy and Dan Sikkema, Mary and Jerry DeGraaf, Carol and Jim Brookhouse; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Nancy and George Jasperse.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 29, at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Jamestown) 2371 Riley St., Hudsonville, with Pastor Julie DeGraaf Feenstra officiating. The burial will take place at Rest Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Sunday from 1-3 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.
