Virginia Ann Bolt

Virginia Ann Bolt (Cutler), aged 100 of Grand Rapids, went to the arms of her Lord on Wednesday, August 7, 2019. She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin “Marty” Bolt. She is survived by her children: Cindy Bolt, Rock (Teri) Bolt, Mary (Gary) Fields; grandchildren: Shane (Laura) Merlihan, Josh (Lori) Bolt, Dustin (Julie) Bolt, Rochelle (Jon Johnson) Bolt, Travis Fields; great-grandchildren: Liam Merlihan, Cutler Merlihan, Veronica Bolt, Lilian Bolt, Jack Johnson; several nieces and nephews.  Virginia and Martin were charter members of Saint John Vianney Parish. She was devoted to her Lord and faith; this was the foundation they gave to their children.  She believed in the power of prayer and the rosary. Virginia gave of her time through the years through women’s groups, Altar Society, churches and Knights of Columbus, aiding with the sick and helping ministry where they were needed most. Through prayer or through baking and cooking for the sick and their families, hospital visits and the prayer line, she kept busy into her aging years until she could no more.
Her family was her peace and nothing made her light up more than to have her kids, grandkids and now great grandkids all together; it made her beam from ear to ear. Her famous baby move was to take off the baby’s sock and tickle their little toes to hear them laugh. She loved baseball and shared her frustration with her beloved Tigers, at times quite vocally. She eventually warmed up to the Red Wings as well, but baseball ran in her Cutler blood. Experienced in knitting and sewing, she shared fond memories of past church spring style shows and helping Dad’s sister with knitted gloves for the children.
Virginia loved games and was an avid bridge player.  She loved solitaire, double solitaire, Kings Corner and Scrabble.  She played her organ by ear and loved to try other instruments.  Bingo was her passion; as her friends all know, she never missed her Bingo day! She and her husband, Marty, traveled to all of the contiguous states and they loved to stop at casinos, find new churches, new friends and play more bingo. Before her career as a mom began, she worked at Michigan Bell switchboard, a job she held throughout WWII.  Later she worked as a secure federal WATS line switchboard operator. She enjoyed giving and praying for others and she loved to sing, as she often did up throughout her 100th year.
