Violet “Vi” Margaret Somerdyke

Violet “Vi” Margaret Somerdyke, aged 95 of Grand Rapids, went to her heavenly home on Sunday, June 5, 2016, where she now joins her loved ones. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; parents, Jake and Neva Denhof; sister, Vivian (Fred) Fahling; and brother, Junior Denhof. Vi will be greatly missed by her children, Patricia Paffhausen, Dale (Jane) Somerdyke, Marchell “Shelly” Rodel; grandchildren, Holly Paffhausen, Samantha Fleser, Christopher (Janice) Dougherty, Shawn (Carrie) Dougherty, Kevin (Lindsey) Dougherty; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff at Fulton Manor and at Mercy Health-St. Mary’s, especially Lisa in the ICU, for their compassionate care of Vi. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday at 11:00 am at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 1630 Godfrey SW, Wyoming with Fr. Stephen Dudek presiding. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family on Wednesday from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm, with a vigil to be held at 7 pm, at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4031 Clyde Park SW, Wyoming. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association.
