Vergie E. Schuitema

Vergie E. Schuitema, age 81 of Wyoming, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, June 4, 2017. Vergie was preceded in death by her husband, John, her sisters, Ann Austin and husband Jim, Savannah Austin and husband Carl, her brother, Don Hurt, and brother-in-law, Vernoy Boggs. She is survived by her children, Kay and Mark Schwallier, Paige and Bob Lemson, John Schuitema, Todd and Kathy Schuitema; many grand and great grandchildren; sister, Ilene Boggs; brothers, Robert and Geraldine Hurt, James and Reda Hurt, Richard and Shelby Hurt; and many nieces and nephews. Vergie loved her family dearly and enjoyed spending her spare time with them. She was very proud that she was chosen to wait on President Gerald Ford when he attended a benefit in Grand Rapids. She instilled in her family a positive attitude and outlook on life. Vergie’s family would like to thank Kindred Hospice and American House for their tender and loving care. A Memorial Service for Vergie will be held on Saturday, June 17 at 2:00 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4145 Chicago Dr. SW, Grandville with Rev. Sue Petro officiating. Relatives and friends may meet the family at the funeral home on Saturday from 12-2 pm prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Autism Society or DeVos Children’s Hospital.
