In Loving Memory of Tracey Maureen Grady

July 6, 1971 – August 5, 2025

A radiant light went out far too soon when Tracey Maureen Grady was called home on August 5, 2025. Her sudden passing has left a deep ache in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Born on July 6, 1971, in Bethesda, Maryland, Tracey was the beloved daughter of Patricia Pauli Grady and Dennis Michael Grady. In 1984, the family relocated to Grand Rapids, Michigan, where Tracey graduated from East Kentwood High School and later earned degrees in Education and Anthropology from Western Michigan University.

Tracey’s life was a vibrant tapestry woven with adventure, compassion, and joy. She taught in Pekanbaru, Indonesia, for 2 years before continuing her journey in San Francisco and Boston, where she worked as a preschool teacher for the children of staff at Massachusetts General Hospital. Eventually, she found her heart’s home on Martha’s Vineyard, where she spent more than two decades as a landscaper, cultivating beauty in every garden she touched. Every Fall, she ran a charming Christmas Shop that became a seasonal island tradition for many—visitors often stopped in simply to bask in her warmth and spirit.

Tracey was a free spirit whose zest for life was infectious. She lit up a room just by entering it, with her gift for making people feel seen, loved, and celebrated. Her generosity knew no bounds—she delighted in giving gifts, nurturing friendships, and spreading joy wherever she went. Of course she loved flowers; her love for them was reflected in the vibrant landscapes she created and the lives she brightened.

On August 1, Tracey suffered a bee sting that led to an unexpected and tragic anaphylactic reaction. She passed away on August 5, leaving behind a community in mourning and a legacy of love.

She is survived by her mother, Patricia Pauli Helder and stepfather, Sidney Helder; her father Dennis Michael Grady and stepmother, Linda Grady; her partner, Kevin Morris; his daughter, Alana Lent (Justin Lent) and granddaughter, Lyla Joy; her sister, Kelley Maureen Grady Dunkelberg and brother-in-law, Philip Miscimarra; honorary sisters, Kim Bush and Amy Reda Freiberg; 4 nephews, a niece, and many loving cousins and stepsiblings whose lives she touched deeply. She was preceded in death by her brother, Sean Michael Grady.

Two celebrations of life will be held in Tracey’s honor:

At 11:00 AM on Monday, September 29, Calvary Church, 707 E. Beltline (Entrance C) in Grand Rapids, with Pastor Don Hancock officiating with visitation from 10:00 – 11:00 AM prior to the service at church. Relatives and friends may meet the family on Sunday, September 28 from 2:00-4:00 PM at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4646 Kalamazoo Ave. SE, Kentwood where family and friends will gather to remember her joy and generosity.

On Martha’s Vineyard (date to be announced), where a special memorial site will be created to honor her enduring spirit. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Tufts Medical Center in Boston for their extraordinary care and compassion during Tracey’s final days. Tracey’s light will never fade—it lives on in every flower she planted, every smile she inspired, and every heart she warmed.
