Penny Joanne Hearing

Penny Joanne Hearing (née Pearce, formerly Bynum), aged 78, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 18, 2026.

Born on February 13, 1948, in Detroit, Michigan, Penny was the beloved daughter of the late Ardith Elliott and Roger Pearce. She grew up in the area, graduating from South High School before earning her degree from Michigan State University.  Penny dedicated nearly 30 years of her professional life to the accounting department at Universal Traffic Service, where her sharp mind and dedicated work ethic were deeply valued.

Beyond her career, Penny was a woman of creativity and intellect. She was an avid reader who could always be found with a book in hand. She had a very dry and wicked sense of humour; a lady full of sharp wit.  Penny loved fully; where friends were more than friends.  They were family.  A strong woman in body, spirit and faith who survived stage IV breast cancer diagnosed at the age of 50. 

Penny's greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her brother, Elliott Pearce of Nevada; her three children, Lisa Janiera Scott of Arizona, Serene Monelli of California, and Kenneth Bynum of Michigan; her three grandchildren, Marcel Foster, Gilbert Clark, and Breanna Arreguin; and her five great-grandchildren, Uriah Foster, Ellis Foster, Victoria Arreguin, Vivianna Arreguin, and Vanessa Arreguin.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ardith and Roger.

Memorial services will be held 2 pm Saturday, October 24th, at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4031 Clyde Park Ave SW, Wyoming, with Pastor. Lawrence C. McFall, Jr officiating.
