Thomas Maddox

Thomas Maddox, age 69, of Byron Center, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, January 26, 2023, after a twenty year battle with Parkinson’s disease. Tom was a devoted husband, father, and papa. Nothing gave him more pleasure than being with his family. Tom maintained a witty sense of humor all the way to the very end. He was a lover of the outdoors, and never passed up the opportunity to share that love with his kids and grandkids. Tom proudly served his country in the Army as a military police officer from 1974-1976. He had a strong work ethic and retired after a 35-year career driving trucks for Batesville Casket Company and for the U.S. Postal Service. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lois and Harland Maddox; siblings, Douglas Maddox, Joanne Rittenhouse, Nancy Martz-Sorrenson, James Maddox; sister-in-law, Christine (Poel) Maddox; and brother-in-law, James Bayles. Tom will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 44 years, Ann; children, Kathryn (Brent) VandenBerg, Erin Maddox, Nick (Stacey) Maddox; grandchildren Cora, Kyla, Sawyer, Quincy, Finnley, Roman, Penelope, Mackenzie; siblings, Jeanne Bayles, Jerome (Marilyn) McGraw, Bob (Sue) Maddox, Frederick (Cyndee) Maddox, Sue Owens, Phil (Beth) Maddox, Dede Briggs; siblings-in-law, Rob Rittenhouse, Christine Maddox, Mark Baker, Patricia (Ed) Matecki, Susan (Tim) Hall, William (Debra) Baker, Richard (Mary) Baker, Tim (Mona) Baker, Joan Baker; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3937 Wilson Ave SW, Grandville with Fr. Stephen Durkee officiating. Burial Resurrection Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW and also one hour prior to the service at church. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to VanAndel Institute for Parkinson’s Research or St. Pius X Parish.
