Sylvia DeWinter

Sylvia “Sib” DeWinter, age 88, of Jenison, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior after a courageous journey with cancer on Monday, January 8, 2018. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, John R. DeWinter. Sylvia was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother that cherished her family. She was a strong woman of faith that will leave a legacy for her family and friends to treasure. Over the years, she gave of her time and talents in many ways. She volunteered at Wycliff, St. Mary’s Hospital, and Wedgewood Guild. Sylvia was gifted in making beautiful quilts, actively involved in the quilters guild at Hudsonville Reformed Church. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Jackie Timmer, Jody and Ben Andrus, Jon Michael and Deb DeWinter, Jaime Doornbos; 22 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; her sister and brother-in-law; along with several other brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A celebration of Sylvia’s life will be held on Thursday, January 11 at 2 p.m. at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW with Rev. Don Van Slyke officiating.  Inurnment will be held at Grandville Cemetery.  Relatives and friends may meet the family Thursday from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Emmanuel Hospice.
