January 28, 2026

Susan Rae (Hyrns) Van Beek, age 79, of Hudsonville, was called home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, January 28, 2026. She was loving, loyal, cheerful, and always happy, with a genuine interest in others that made everyone feel seen and valued. Family meant everything to her, and some of her favorite moments were spent making memories together, especially if ice cream was involved! She enjoyed many wonderful years at Sandy Pines, loved playing games, dancing with her husband, and traveling whenever she could. Susan had a creative spirit, enjoying cake decorating and working alongside her husband Jim to create stained glass pieces, which they proudly sold at art and craft shows. She cherished her church family and friendships she made. Above all, she was servant-hearted, always ready to help, and was very proud of her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Jim; daughter, Wendy Gunn; her parents, Jack and Betty Hyrns; stepfather, George Isaac; sister, Beth Ann Isaac; and brother-in-law, Floyd Paauwe. Susan will be lovingly remembered by her children, Craig and Laura Van Beek, Robert and Bambi Van Beek; son-in-law, Jay Gunn; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; siblings, Sandra Paauwe, Mike and Mary Isaac, Joe and Shawne Isaac; loving nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at Burnips United Methodist Church, 4241 30th St. with Pastor Gary Zinger officiating. Burial will take place at Star Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with the family Tuesday from 4-7 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Jamestown) 2371 Riley St. Hudsonville.
