Steven G. Hamer, age 62, of Allendale, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at home. Steve was born on February 8, 1955 in Kidderminster, United Kingdom. At 19, Steve moved to the United States. He worked as a jockey on a horse farm and then worked as a sales manager for many years in the car business. His love for computers and technology led to his position as Senior Computer Support Specialist with Spartan Stores. Steve married the love of his life, Karen on February 14, 1997. Steve and Karen enjoyed traveling, as well as, spending time with family and friends. Steve’s interests and hobbies included feeding his birds and squirrels, fixing computers, and watching drag racing and football. He loved his New England Patriots. Steve is survived by his beloved wife of 20 years, Karen; daughters, Tara (William) Carpenter, and Amanda Hamer; stepdaughters, Rebecca (Eric) Rode, and Sarah (Sean) McFerron; 13 grandchildren; and two brothers. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf (corner of Avery and Scott) 6651 Scott St., Allendale with Pastor Dennis Gilbert officiating. Relatives and friends may meet the family on Friday from 5-8 p.m. and Saturday from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. In addition, a Masonic service will be held on Saturday at 9:30 am prior to the visitation.
