Steven Flaherty

Steven George Flaherty passed away, at the age of 80, on Thursday, June 22, 2023, at The Oaks at Belmont, after a long battle fighting the recovery from a few strokes. Steven was born in Battle Creek, Michigan, on January 17, 1943, to Martin and Margaret Flaherty. Throughout his life, Steven was an avid gearhead. He spent his life working on cars, selling automotive equipment, and taking things apart. He loved to “fix” things in his own fashion. Steven also enjoyed flying his own Cessna 172. He would take you flying if you were brave enough to join him. Steven loved watching his kids racing and growing up raising their own families. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Flaherty; brother, Richard Flaherty; and his parents. Steven is survived by his children and grandchildren, Doug and Val Flaherty (Max), Steven and Wendy Flaherty (Amber, Brandon); step children, Grady, John, Judy, and Tracy; and his step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren. The family thanks The Oaks at Belmont for the special care they provided to Steven. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW. Relatives and friends may meet the family Tuesday, June 27, from 4-7 p.m. and Wednesday from 10-11 a.m. at the funeral home. The burial will take place at Battle Creek Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels Western Michigan in Steven’s honor.
