Steven Chittenden

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Steven Troy Chittenden, age 64, of Grand Rapids. Steve was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend who brought joy and warmth to all who knew him. Steve was an artist at heart, a talented writer, web designer, and owner of Creative Business Services. He took a genuine interest in all his children’s pursuits and interests, supporting them in all their activities. Steve enjoyed the outdoors, especially campfires with friends and family and found great joy in bicycling trips with his wife. His compassionate spirit led him to use his gifts to serve on the Alpha Prison Ministries Board. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the hospice team and to his family, whose care and support in his final days brought comfort and peace. Steve’s legacy of love, humor, and dedication will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be lovingly remembered by his loving wife of 39 years, Sheryl (Kok) Chittenden; his devoted children, Laura Chittenden, Cari and Wesley Mayle, and Paul Chittenden; grandchildren, Evangeline and Isaac Mayle; siblings, Anita and Dan Timm, Dave Chittenden (Yolanda Lee), Mike and Kendra Chittenden, Kim Chittenden, Connie and Eddie Lee, Mark Chittenden; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Don Kok, Kim and Rod Schutte, Tam and Randy Ritsema; and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Gloria Chittenden, and sister-in-law, Wanda Kok. A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at Baldwin Street Christian Reformed Church, 2101 Baldwin St., Jenison, with Pastor Ricky Luong officiating. Burial will take place at Georgetown Township Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with the family Wednesday, May 21 from 5-8 p.m. at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW and on Thursday from 10-10:45 a.m. at the church prior to the service.
