
Sister Anne Breitag, OP, of Grand Rapids Michigan, entered eternal life on November 1, 2025, at the age of 81. She was born on September 26, 1944, in Saginaw, Michigan, and devoted her life to serving God and others through her ministry in education and pastoral care.
Sister Anne earned her Bachelor of Arts and a Master’s in Religious Studies from Aquinas College and a Master’s in Elementary Education from Central Michigan. For 36 years, she shared her deep faith and love of learning as a teacher and principal in Catholic middle and high schools. Her joy in working with young people was boundless. She often spoke of the daily chuckles, energy, and hope they brought her. A firm believer in the value of Catholic education, Sister Anne touched countless lives through her dedication, patience, and humor.
After completing a certificate in pastoral education, Sister Anne served as a hospital chaplain for 20 years, offering compassion and prayer to patients and families. She was known for being available day or night to those in need, always expressing gratitude for the blessings in her life.
Sister Anne enjoyed playing guitar, reading, listening to music, traveling, and attending theatrical performances. She was a lively and joyful companion on life’s journey, remembered for her humorous laugh, gentle spirit, and selfless heart. She asked for very little and gave so much.
She will be dearly missed by her religious community, family, friends, and all whose lives she touched with her kindness and faith.
Sr. Anne is survived by her brother in-law, Eldon Teller, other family, friends, and members of her Dominican Community.
Sr. Anne will repose at Marywood Chapel of the Word, 111 Lakeside Dr. NE, with a Remembering Service on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at 9:00 am and a Funeral Mass to follow at 10:30 am. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery. Memorials in Sr. Anne’s name may be made to the Grand Rapids Dominican Sisters.
