Shirley Ann (Rowland) Warmolts passed away on Friday, April 8, 2022, at the age of 85, with her beloved husband, Jim, and family at her side. Shirley was born on December 6, 1936, in Grand Rapids, to Rena Bergsma and Clifford Rowland. She was raised in Wyoming, graduating from Lee High School. On June 24, 1955, she married James Warmolts. Over the years, Shirley volunteered with organizations including a local food pantry, schools, hospitals, and the Cub Scouts as a den mother. She led the effort in the 1970’s to ban leaf burning in Wyoming in response to its effects on children’s respiratory health, which resulted in her receiving the city’s Clean Air Citizen Award. She was active at Calvary Church and Grandville Bible Church and dedicated her efforts to many church activities throughout her life. Shirley had a 30-year career in residential interior design. She started her own business, Impressive Interiors, in the early 1990’s after working for an interior design firm. Among her many clients over the years were several homebuilders featured in the Grand Rapids Parade of Homes. She enjoyed travel, design, meeting new people, and spending time with friends and family. She always particularly enjoyed children and was a joyful and doting grandmother and great-grandmother. Shirley was a generous, interested, and loving person who appreciated the beauty of the world surrounding her, from home design and fashion, to people, animals, and nature in all its forms. She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, Joe Alberts and stepmother, Vera Rowland; and her brother, Edward Rowland. Shirley is survived by her loving husband, Jim; children, Jeff Warmolts (Michelle) of Plymouth, Julie Stensrud of Wyoming, and Joel Warmolts (Mike Millikin) of Fennville; grandchildren, Nick Warmolts (Jennifer), CJ Warmolts (Jackie), Kristin Motcheck (Ted), and Jake Stensrud; six great-grandchildren; brother, Robert Rowland (June); sisters, Carole Link, and Rose Lappe (Jim); stepbrother, Jack Alberts (Joan); sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Sally Rowland, Mary Douthett, Nancy Warmolts, and Sheryl and Jerry Hunt; and cherished nieces and nephews. The family is very grateful to the teams at American House Jenison, Spectrum Home-Based Primary Care, and Spectrum Health Hospice for their caring attention at the end of Shirley’s life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association if desired.
