Bernard Walter Bennor

Bernard “Bernie” Bennor, age 85, of Rockford, passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2026.
He was born to the late George and Vauna Bennor, and raised in Bruce, Wisconsin. After graduating high school he made his home in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Blessed with a great sense of humor, he was well known for the many unique hats he wore, each one reflecting his vibrant personality. A natural people person, he never met a stranger—quickly turning conversations into lifelong friendships. He had a passion for cooking and baking, and was incredibly resourceful, a true jack of all trades who could figure anything out. He also enjoyed scrapping and spending time playing cribbage, simple pleasures that brought him great joy.
He will be lovingly remembered by his life companion and best friend of 36 years, Candy VanderWal; children, Colleen and Brad Ford, James and Kelli Bennor, Wendy and Brian Burmania; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Jean and Dave Dearhamer; several nieces and nephews. 
A Memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, April 29th, at North Park Presbyterian Church, 500 North Park Street NE, Grand Rapids, with Rev. Alrick Hadley officiating.
