Sandra Joan Kowalczyk

Sandra Joan Kowalczyk, 80, of Alto, Michigan passed away peacefully on June 2nd, 2026 at Green Acres Memory Care Facility in Wayland, Michigan.  

To know Sandy was to love her!  She never met a stranger.  She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.  She was dedicated to her family. 

Sandy grew up in Lansing, Michigan and moved to Hastings her senior year in high school where she graduated in 1963.  She met the love of her life, Mick, in the summer of 1966 and they were married 3 months later on September 17th, 1966.  They would have been celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary this fall.

She earned her associates degree from Davenport College and worked most of her life in accounting and medical transcription.  

Sandy and Mick were blessed with three children, Mike Kowalczyk, Katie (Paul) Fulmer, and Craig (Kristen) Kowalczyk.  They have 12 grandchildren, Erica Darraugh, Zac Fulmer, Tyler Fulmer, Abby Fulmer, Michael Kowalczyk, Taylor Kowalczyk, Evan Kowalczyk, Isabella Sasso, Brendan Sasso, Ciara Kowalczyk, Drew Fulmer and Audi Kowalczyk.  They also have 5 great grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews. 

Sandy was proud to be the oldest of 10 siblings whom she loved very much!  Her siblings include brother, Bina (Sue) Guggemos; sister, Cynthia Guggemos; brother, Greg (Mary Lynn) Guggemos; brother, Gary Guggemos; brother; Chris Guggemos (deceased); brother, Rick Guggemos; brother, Mark (Betty) Guggemos; sister, Mary (Steve) Thelen; sister, Missy Guggemos.

Other special people in Sandy’s life include in-laws, Mary Lou and Chris Smith, Linda Jousma and Jane Jordan.  

Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard Guggemos and Delores (Fink) Guggemos.  She was also preceded in death by her special aunt and uncle, Grace and David Bailey.  

Visitation will be Sunday June 7th at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 616 E. Main St. SE, Caledonia from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm and 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm.
