Ruth Elzinga

Ruth Elaine Elzinga, child of God, was called home to be with her Lord on July 20, 2026. She loved being surrounded by her family, puttering with the many flowers in her garden, knitting for children and grandchildren, and being part of a loving and caring congregation.

Ruth was born on December 6, 1930 to Fidel and Hester Bell of Holland, Michigan.  She married Louis Elzinga on October 4, 1949. Together they had five children, Sally (Calvin) Jongsma of Sioux Center, IA, Karen (Robert) Koerner of Grandville, Kelvin (Beth) of Alto, Douglas (Kimberly) Elzinga of Pagosa Springs, CO, and Brian (Bonnie) Elzinga of Marne. Ruth is also remembered by her grandchildren, Sonya Jongsma Knauss, Jonathon (Joanne) Jongsma, Jeremy Jongsma, Kara (Todd) Cammenga, Robin (Jim) Dertien, Luanne (Alex) Cammenga, Dan (Rhonda) Koerner, Becca (Adam) Erdmans, Heather (Joel) Lobbezoo, Jamie Elzinga, David (Jamie) Elzinga, Jodi (Shane) Pym, Haley Elzinga, Michael Elzinga, and Erica (Ryan) Wobma;  and 40 great-grandchildren. Ruth was preceded in death by husband, Louis; son-in-law, Robert Koerner; son, Brian Elzinga; grandson, Michael Elzinga; and sister, Barbara (Chuck) Rozema.

The family wishes to thank her church family of Grace Protestant Reformed Church for their love and care and assisting her with attending church and a special thanks to friends Judy Meulenberg and Kathy Knott from church. Also a thank you to the considerate caregivers at Sunset Manor and Corewell Hospice. 

A memorial service will be held at Grace Protestant Reformed Church, 11225 8th Ave. NW, Grand Rapids, 49534 on Friday, July 25, 2026 at 11am with Rev. M. Dick officiating. Burial will take place at Rosedale Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Thursday, July 24 from 6-8pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Grace Protestant Reformed Church or Sunset Manor and Villages.
