
On January 15, 2024, God called Russell T. VanLaan home to be with Him forever. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, J. Joyce (Haagsma); his parents, George and Helen; brother, Bill; sister, Arelyne Kamp. He is survived by his wife, Gloria (Shade); children: Debbie and Jacque Adair, Pam and Norm VanDeRoer, Lyn and Todd Dunn; grandchildren: Nick and Aly VanDeRoer, Brett and Carrie VanDeRoer, Drew and Lauren Snyder, TJ and Daisi Synder, David Meyerholtz, Nichole Adair; great grandchildren: Ellie Joy, Anna Grace, Lane Russell, Emma Avery; step-children: John Shade, Sue and Greg Nielsen; step-granddaughters: Jennifer and Michelle; 6 step-great grandchildren; brothers, George VanLaan, Carl and Leslie VanLaan; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Russ was a member of Faith Reformed Church for over 60 years, serving on many boards, committees and leadership positions including being a Cadet leader for 37 years. He proudly served in the U.S. Army. Russ worked for Consumers Energy for over 40 years as a lineman. He also loved woodworking and traveling. He will be lovingly remembered as an example to his family and friends through his life and work ethic and service to others. According to his wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at Faith Reformed Church, 618 32nd St SW, Wyoming, with Rev. Bruce Osbeck and Rev. Harry Koops officiating. Burial will be held at Pine Hill Cemetery at a later date. Relatives and friends may meet the family Saturday from 10-11 a.m. at the church. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Faith Hospice.
