Roy P. Tanis, age 92, entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior on December 6, 2025. Born in Reeman, Michigan to Dennis and Christine Tanis, Roy lived a full and faithful life.
Roy was a gentle giant and had a deep love for the outdoors. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting, but fishing was his lifelong passion. Rarely unsuccessful, he enjoyed wetting a line and often remarked that fishing in Florida was the best - “the fish fight harder, and if they aren’t biting, you can always eat the bait” he would say with a smile.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marie; son, Carl (Joe); sister, Carol; and his parents. Roy is survived by his sister, Elaine; his children and their spouses, Dennis and Sharon Tanis, Louise and Wayne Getchell, Rich and Paula Tanis, Rod and Luann Tanis, Phil and Kerri Tanis; daughter-in-law, Deb Tanis; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will carry on his legacy of love, laughter, and fishing.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Friday, December 19, 2025, at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW with Pastor Nate Meldrim officiating. Burial will take place at Reeman Cemetery at a later date. Relatives and friends may visit with the family Friday from 10-11 am at the funeral home prior to the service. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Bradenton Christian Reformed Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
