Jerry K. Shaffer, age 46, of Hudsonville, went home to be with his heavenly Father on Sunday, October 26, 2025. He was a loyal and devoted father who built intentional relationships with his children and led with a huge heart for others. A true family man, he always put his loved ones first in everything he did. Jerry had a deep faith in God that guided how he lived and cared for those around him. Creative, resourceful, and incredibly handy, he had a strong work ethic and a natural ability to lead. He served as a supervisor for the Kent County Forensics Unit, where his dedication and leadership were deeply respected. Jerry loved animals and found peace and joy in the outdoors, especially on hikes surrounded by nature. He also had a passion for Jeeps, enjoying the challenge of working on them and buying and selling them over the years. Known for his fun-loving and sometimes goofy side, he brought laughter and warmth to everyone around him. Jerry will be dearly missed by his wife, Rebecca; children, Aidan, Owen, and Violet Shaffer; his mother Jacqueline Veltman and father figure, Fred Feeney; siblings, Amy and Serkan Bastug (Koray, Ela, and Leyla Bastug), Angie Lee (Ava Rearick, Jonah Lee); parents-in-law, Patrick and Christina Kearney; brother-in-law, Mike Kearney; the family dog, Clover; and several other loving extended family and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Ronald Shaffer. A celebration of Jerry’s life will be held on Wednesday, November 5, at 12 p.m. at Redemption Church, 3075 30th St. SW, Grandville, with Pastor Josh Tovey officiating. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, November 4, from 6-8 p.m. at MKD Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW and on Wednesday from 11-11:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Kent County Animal Shelter.
