Ronald DeVries

Ronald DeVries, age 82, of Grand Rapids, was called home to be with the Lord over the weekend. Ron proudly served his country for four years in the Navy during the Vietnam War era. After he returned home, Ron graduated from Western Michigan University with a bachelor's degree in finance. Ron then founded DeVries and Royston Insurance Agency and served the community for over 30 years. In his free time, Ron enjoyed boating during the summer, and he was an avid Detroit sports fan. He was even more passionate when it came to supporting his family at all of their sporting events. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor and his generous nature. The family takes comfort in knowing that he had a lifelong relationship and trust in the Lord. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Margaret DeVries. Ron will be lovingly remembered by his children, Bradley DeVries (Shaun Lee), and Jillayne DeVries, grandchildren, Audrey DeVries, and Evelyn DeVries; brother, Dennis (Alison) DeVries; nephew, Derek (Maureen) DeVries; niece, Jordyn (Bryan) Hatch; former wife, Jan DeVries; as well as three great-nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.

Burial will take place at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with the family Monday, January 26, 2026, from 4-7 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to St. Ann’s Home.
