Roger Ward

Roger Franklin Ward, age 77, of Wyoming, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 6, 2021. Roger was born in Arkansas and then moved to Tennessee. He enlisted in the Army in 1964 and served six years in the Tennessee National Guard as a tanker from 1964-1970. While serving, he attended Jump School at Fort Benning, GA, where he earned his Airborne Wings. After the Army, Roger moved to Michigan where he created a lifelong home for his family. He retired after 33 years driving truck for Meijer. Roger had a passion for racing and anything “going fast”. He especially enjoyed his family and attending his grandkids’ many sporting events. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Minnie Ward; brother, John; father-in-law, Harold Smith; stepfather, Bruce Baird; and brother-in-law, Stephen Smith. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 53 years, Linda Ward; children and grandchildren, Vickie and Kevin Kline (Kaylee, Zachary, Nathan, Kevin Jr., Sydney), Jodi and Dan Powers (Hayleigh and Jake, Cooper); sister and brothers, Maxine and Jerry Dunfee, Charles and Jackie Ward, Richard Ward, Wayne Ward, Billy Ward; mother-in-law, Gertrude Baird; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Carol and Jon Stuive, Frank and Debbie Smith, Dale Smith, Don and Pam Smith, Terry and Kate Smith. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 13, 2021, at 11 a.m. at Lee Street Christian Reformed Church, 1261 Lee St. SW, Wyoming, with Rev. Kent Rottman officiating. Relatives and friends may meet the family Friday, March 12, from 5-8 p.m. at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society.
