Roger Smit

Roger Paul Smit, age 81, of Wyoming, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 31, 2025. Roger grew up in Kalamazoo, Michigan, in a family of nine. He was a proud alumnus of Kalamazoo Christian High School, Calvin College, and Western Michigan University. Throughout his life, Roger enjoyed many sports, and he had a particular passion for coaching. His career was largely spent in education, and he later transitioned to various sales roles. Roger had a love for travel and was fortunate to visit the Netherlands on ten separate occasions. He was also an avid Tigers fan and enjoyed collecting, as well as old music and movies. Above all, Roger was a very doting grandfather who cherished spending time with his family. He was a friend to many and was known for being a great listener and a good conversationalist.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Anna Smit; sisters and brother, Marilyn Householder, Karen Boyd, Phyllis Ciganek, Robert Smit. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Rachaele Harding, Rebecca Smit, Robert and Lindsey Smit; six grandchildren; Kaelyn, Blake, Teagan, Elzora, Rozalyn, Lorelei; sisters, Beth and Brian Doxtator, Cynthia and Stephan Gero; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 4, at 11 a.m. at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW. The burial will take place at Mt. Ever Rest Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, June 3, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Calvary Christian Reformed Church.
