Roger Glenn Rycenga

Roger Glenn Rycenga, age 86, of Allendale, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, May 23, 2022. He was born January 20, 1936, in Grand Haven, MI to Herman and Doris Rycenga. He was preceded in death by his brother, Herm Rycenga, and sister, Lois Higbee. Roger will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 67 years, Edith (Nuland); children, Alan and Julie Rycenga, Lorna and Steve Martin, Laura and Joe Potgeter, Debra and Jeff Miller, Blaine and Gaylene Rycenga, Brock and Diane Rycenga; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; his brother, Elwood Rycenga; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ron Higbee, Alvin and Mae Eaton, John and Rosemary Nuland, Lewis and Ann Van Farowe; many nieces and nephews. Roger proudly served his country in the US Army from 1954-1956. After being discharged from the Army, he attended barber school and was a barber in Allendale for 20 years. He also enjoyed growing and selling Christmas trees at his home. Roger was blessed with the gift of leadership and was a visionary which also led him to serve as the Allendale Township Supervisor for 20 years. Following retirement as Supervisor, he served as an Ottawa County Commissioner. He served his Lord with his time and talents in many ways at his church and school, teaching Sunday school, serving as elder, and as a school board member. Roger enjoyed music, singing in a quartet at churches and weddings. Never afraid of being in front of people, he had the gift of entertaining, performing comedy acts at several weddings and other events. Roger also enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, golfing, and other various sporting activities. Above all, Roger was well-loved and a true family man who invested in meaningful relationships. He loved the Lord daily, and now resides in heaven face to face with Jesus. His legacy will be forever remembered. Funeral services will be held on Friday 11 am at Lighthouse Community Church, 7624 Lake Michigan Dr., Allendale with Pastor Steve Demers officiating. Burial Allendale Township Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Lighthouse Community Church. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Lighthouse Community Building Fund.
