October 1, 2022

Roger Edwin Bremer, age 88, of Hudsonville, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, October 1, 2022. He was born in Grand Rapids, MI to Ralph and Effie Bremer. He entered the Army and served overseas in Korea post-wartime. Roger married his wife, MaryAnne and together they raised their family of five on the farm, until her passing in 1987. He extended his family again when he married Ruth Bruins, and loved his step-family as his own. Roger will be remembered for being a hard worker. Farming was his joy and passion, and he retired after 40 years as a truck driver for Spartan Stores. Roger’s faith and family were most important to him. At Hillcrest Christian Reformed Church he was honored to serve as a deacon, elder and pastoral care associate. He modeled genuine thankfulness, kindness, and unconditional love to everyone he met. He will be greatly missed for his ability to find peace and contentment among life’s trials and for his love for his family.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 29 years, MaryAnne; his second wife of 31 years, Ruth (Bruins) Bremer in 2019; siblings, Maurice (Gert) Bremer, Harold (Eileen) Bremer, Joanne (Harris) Bosma, Ronald Bremer; siblings-in-law, Charles Erickson, Gary Essenburg, Julian Aukeman, Cornelia (Marvin) Veltema, Elwood Stillman; and step-daughter-in-law, Jan Bruins. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Gary (Idanne) Bremer, Mark (Sharlyn) Bremer, Carol (Frank) DeHaan, Kevin (Lori) Bremer, Dale (Karla) Bremer; stepchildren, Larry (Lyn) Bruins, Roger Bruins, Karla Bruins, Robert (Maribeth) Bruins, Tom (Bonnie) Bruins, Diane Bruins; many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Brenda Essenburg, and Elaine Aukeman; sisters-in-law, Tena Bremer, Jean Bosma; and many nieces and nephews. The family extends their appreciation for the special care and support they received from Waterford Place and Emmanuel Hospice.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Thursday, October 6, 2022, at Hillcrest Christian Reformed Church, 3617 Hillcrest Rd. Hudsonville with Rev. Curt Walters officiating. Burial will take place at Floral View Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends may meet the family Wednesday, October 5, from 5-8 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW and from 10-10:45 am on Thursday at Church.
