Roger Allen Kidder

Roger A. Kidder, age 71, of passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at Samaritas Senior Living in Grand Rapids. He was born in Hastings, Michigan on May 5, 1950 to Donald Sr. and Mary (VanAman) Kidder. After graduating Thornapple Kellogg High School in Middleville, he was hired into the Bradford White Corporation. He was a factory worker there for 39 years until he retired in 2008. However, during Roger’s time of employment, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served on active duty for 2 years. He was a Machine Gunner and Tech Helper. During his service in the Marines, he earned a Rifle Marksman Badge, National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. Upon his return home from active duty, he was transferred into the Marine Corps Reserve and enlisted in the National Guard where he served for a few years. In his free time, he enjoyed watching many sports such as baseball, football, NASCAR, and horse racing. He also loved to travel and visit family, friends and tell everyone his favorite stories and memories. His parents preceded him in death along with his brothers, Bill and Rodney. He is survived by his daughter, Shannon Vander Ploeg; his brothers, Gary (Judy) Kidder and Tim (Deanna) Kidder and his sisters, Barbara Moore, Nadine (Herb) Smelker and Laura (Larry) Lenz.
