Robert William DeJonge

Robert William DeJonge, 86, of Grand Rapids, was born into eternal life on Friday, April 28, 2023. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 63 years, Hope DeJonge, and his four children: Joan L. DeJonge and John Walls of Kentwood, Mary E. DeJonge-Benishek and Robert Benishek of Marine on Saint Croix MN, Carol J. DeJonge van Deelen and Timothy van Deelen of Waunakee WI, and Thomas R. DeJonge and Kelly Daunter of Petoskey, and his seven grandchildren: Mads S. Benishek and Slats Toole, Charlotte H. Benishek, Alex R. Benishek and Claudia Sofia Carrillo Vazquez, Grace C. van Deelen, Jakob A. van Deelen, Samuel S. DeJonge, and Ansje S. DeJonge. He will always be cherished by Duc and Ngan Lam of Grandville and their three daughters, Carolyn, Ashley, and Sophia, as their beloved Grandpa.

Bob is survived by his brother William A. DeJonge of Old Lyme CT, and was predeceased by his sister Phyllis DeJonge Aurich, and his parents Arthur William and Grada Haeck DeJonge. 

Bob's family expresses their deepest gratitude to the dedicated professionals of Spectrum Butterworth and Faith Hospice for their care and support, especially the trauma team, Kathy NP, and Chaplain Matthew.

Bob carried these words of the Psalmist in his heart and they were among the last he heard as he left us: The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade at your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life. The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time on and forevermore.
