Robert “Bob” Anthony, August 7, 1936 – March 12, 2018, of Jenison. During his four year battle with melanoma, Dad often said, “It is in God’s hands.” He grabbed onto those hands on Monday, March 12, surrounded by family. We are grateful that the final fight was aided by Faith Hospice staff. Married over 52 years to Patricia (Houlihan, Vander Ven); beloved, devoted and proud dad to his five children, Karen (Jeff) Lynema, Kevin (Sabrina) Vander Weide, Kenny Vander Weide, Keith Vander Weide, Kim (Jamie) Karwowski; “Grandpa Bob” to Justin, Alexis, Trevor, Jordan, Kaylee, Jared, Brady, Ryan and Gavin; “Great Grandpa” to Jackson. Mom and Dad were long-term members of Ridgewood Christian Reformed Church and devoted Christians. Dad served in the Army, discovering he really liked Alaska. He worked at the General Motors plant on Burlingame for over 40 years. He was very involved in the UAW 167 and Region D union, especially as a retiree. He was a crossing guard in Jenison since 1984. Dad enjoyed ushering at the Van Andel Arena. They both were avid fans of the Grand Rapids Griffins and enjoyed trips to AHL conventions. Dad was the “Romeo” to Mom’s Red Hat. He could often be found hanging out in Marge’s for coffee and a donut. He also enjoyed Tuesday cribbage at the VFW on 44th Street. Dad was devoted to numerous causes and had a big servant heart. He lived Matthew 22:37-39, Jesus replied, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 17, 2018, at Ridgewood CRC with Rev. Len Kuyvenhoven officiating. Please join our family for a celebration of Dad’s life. Interment Rest Lawn Memorial Park.
