Robert “Robbie” T. Wallington, age 43, of Grand Rapids, went to be reunited with his mother on Thursday, December 21, 2023. Robbie will be remembered for his great sense of humor along with his love for Michigan football and the Detroit Lions. He often gave his time to others, being the Easter Bunny for the John Ball Easter Egg Hunt for many years and working with Wreaths Across America to welcome veterans back home at the airport. Robbie also loved to hunt and fish and being a part of his Huntin’ Hobo Group. He loved to stay active by going disc golfing and playing beans (27 feet back). Above all he loved and was very protective of his family and he showed that love through cracking jokes oftentimes at their own expense. He has now left this earthly life to be with his heavenly family and is now watching over those he cares about from above. He was preceded in death by his mom, Penny Wallington; sister, Maryann Wallington; niece, Abigail Warren; and his loving grandparents. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Jolene; children, Ilana (Levi) Hatcher, Christopher (Jakelyn Vargas) Lafey, Benjamin “Begers” Wallington, Joseph “Porky” Wallington, Carley Fernandez-Wallington; step-children, Onna Burger, Enrique “Ricky” Burger, Jezenia Mulero; grandchildren, Alba Hatcher, Ira Hatcher, Jonathan Hatcher, Nalani Vargas, Bella Mulero; father, Bob Wallington; siblings, Katie (Damon) Warren, Tricia (Kevin) Haase, Nicki Kindt, Missie Jones, Luci Shaffer; parents-in-law, Michael and Sandy Burger; siblings-in-law, Angie Burger, Samantha Kolbe; nieces and nephews Tiffany, Anthony, Bubba, JR, Dylan, Connor, Ryder, Rebel, Izzie, Ila, Ben, Lil Rick, Alessandro, Nana, Aurelio, Kaydyn, Shai, Emmett; lifelong friends, Mike and Rosa Welch, J.R. Parks, Jeff Erdman, Chip and Kim Herring, and Joe and Shelly Erdman, Jeffey Hoaglin, Dave Lovell, Brian Walker, Sally and Tony De La Rosa; the Huntin’ Hobo Group, and many other friends. “Did it hurt? Cuz I ain’t feel it.”
Funeral services will be held 11 am Thursday, December 28 at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4646 Kalamazoo Ave. SE, Kentwood, with Rev. Dennis Gilbert officiating. Burial will be held at Resurrection Cemetery at a later date. Relatives and friends may meet the family Thursday from 10-11 am at the funeral home prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial contributions to go toward the needs of the family.
