Robert   Smrcina

Smrcina, Robert Robert Wayne Smrcina Sr., age 80,of Caledonia, passed away suddenly on  Thursday, June 19, 2014. He was preceded in death  by his parents, Leo and Jessie Smrcina, 5 brothers, 3 sisters, and son-in-law, DeWayne Stratton.  He will be greatly missed by his children: Vicki Stratton, Joanne Smrcina, Tina (Tony) Larson, Robert (Tammy) Smrcina Jr., and their mother, Valerie Smrcina: grandchildren:  Tracy (JL) Divers, Matt Bamm, Kristen (Andy) Abbott, Alex (Ayesha) Larson, Sam, Hayley and Grace Larson, Tabetha Smrcina, Chelsea Gehl; great grandchildren:  Cassie, Celia, Jae`la, Jasanti; many nieces and nephews; special friend and sidekick, Paul Tolan; and numerous friends.   Bob loved spending time with his kids, grandkids and great grandkids. They spent many hours swimming in his pool and joking with him. He was very proud of all of their accomplishments. He loved his hummingbirds and a fondness after many years, for squirrels. Bob was currently the president of the Caledonia Sportsman's Club for 24 years. With Bob’s guidance, the club became the beautiful facility it is today. The members were like his family and he valued those relationships. Bob loved hunting deer with Jr., excursions around the country & Canada with ‘comrades’ on a quest for the elusive moose! He loved to fish, hunt, golf, play Euchre and never missed a chance to play Keno. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #305 and past member of the White Lake Eagles. He started the Credit Union at DuPont in Montague and was a Credit Union League rep where the Credit Union became his passion. He started working at Grand Valley Co-op Credit Union in 1971 where he became the manager. He retired after many years on December 31, 2010.  Bob touched so many lives. He lived life on his own terms. He will be missed by many.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Holy Family Catholic Church, 9669 Kraft SE, Caledonia, with Fr. Charles Fischer, celebrant.  Relatives and friends may visit the family on Tuesday from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at the church.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the Juvenile Diabetes Association.
