Robert Roy Black

Robert Roy Black, aged 90, of Caledonia MI, passed away Wednesday, March 29, 2023. He was preceded in death by his sister, Marion of Spooner, WI. He is survived by his wife, Lenora Ann and children, Robert (Andrea), Anita (Steven) Oudbier, Mary (Ulrich) Meierfrankenfeld, Peter (Robert Trenary), Thomas and grandchildren: MaryEllen, David, Hope, Christopher, Amanda, Nicholas; and his brother, James of Trego, WI.

Bob was born in St. Paul MN, and was valedictorian of his senior class of Spooner, WI. He received a baseball scholarship to the University of Wisconsin but was unable to play due to failing eyesight. He joined the Navy and was on an aircraft carrier in the South Pacific during the Korean War. After getting married and earning his engineering degree from the University of Minnesota, he worked on the Apollo program at Minneapolis Honeywell. Bob and his family moved to Grand Rapids, MI in 1970, where he worked for Lear Siegler until his retirement in 1995. He and Lenora spent many winters in Mesa, AZ where he was active in his community. Bob was an avid reader and a frequent public library visitor. He was loved by his friends and neighbors for his quiet disposition and easy manner.

Mass of Christian burial will be Tuesday at 11 a.m., at Holy Family Catholic Church, 9669 Kraft SE, Caledonia, followed by lunch in the church hall. The burial will take place at Kent Memorial Gardens following the lunch. There will be a one-hour visitation before the funeral mass in the Narthex of the church. Those who wish, may make memorial contributions to Holy Family Catholic Church.
