Robert Lee Groendyke

Robert L. Groendyke, age 88, of Grand Rapids departed this earthly life on Friday, November 27, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Alma; sister, Dolores VanTuinen; infant son, Kevin; daughter, Yvonne Burger. He will be dearly missed by his son, Dennis (Allison) Groendyke; grandchildren, Dennis, Jr. (Mary) Groendyke, Erika (Jose) Leon, Grace Groendyke (Juventino), Heather Groendyke (Timothy), Abbie, Kevin, Sarah Groendyke, Christopher (Katie) Burger, Felicia Burger; great-grandchildren, Ayva, Khloe, Coltin, Ellie Groendyke, Madelynn, Caleb Leon; sisters, Barbara (Marlin) Shrontz, Judy Lee, Deborah (Bob) Curtis; son-in-law, Dean Burger; brother-in-law Alvin VanTuinen; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Robert (Bob) was a warm, loving, caring father and grandfather. He was a dedicated, 33 year, employee of the General Motors Rochester Products. Bob valiantly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and served in the National Guard following his tour of duty. He thoroughly enjoyed watching his son and grandkids play sports and never missed a family event including graduations, weddings, reunions and many other family functions. He was a faithful “sidewalk supervisor” for Dennis’ roofing company. The Funeral Service for Robert will be held on Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at 11:00 am at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4031 Clyde Park Ave. SW, Wyoming. Friends and relatives can meet the family from 9 to 10 am at the funeral home with family visitation from 10 to 11 am. Cremation will follow the funeral service. Due to COVID restrictions attendance will be limited to 25 persons at a time. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital.
