Robert Joseph Powers

Robert Joseph Powers, age 81, of Grand Rapids, passed into eternity on Friday, April 2, 2021. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Carol; sisters, Shirley and John Slusser, Charlene and Floyd Billard; brother-in-law, Jerry Gabrion and sister-in-law, Kay Powers. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Lisa and David Wilbur, Sharon and Jon Meerman, Janet and John Jepsen, Linda and Jim Rossiter; 16 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; siblings, Margaret Gabrion, Charles Powers, Sandy and John Fleckenstein; many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Bob’s moral character, coupled with his deep intellect and business relationships, was evident in his success as a salesman, engineer, entrepreneur and business owner of Quality Air. He attended St. Augustine School in Kalamazoo and received Bachelor and Masters of Science degrees from WMU. A humble man of deep faith, Bob’s generosity was most often secretly shared with those in need. Although Bob held strong religious and political opinions, he was always gentle and respectful in sharing these with others. Bob enjoyed relaxing with family and friends at the cottage on Lake Charlevoix, at holiday celebrations, and in Florida. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am Wednesday, April 7 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 151 Garfield SW, Grand Rapids with celebrant Rev. Robert Sirico and Fr. John Fleckenstein (nephew), concelebrant. Burial St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Caledonia. Relatives and friends may meet the family at church on Tuesday from 6-8 pm and also on Wednesday from 10-11 am prior to mass. A Rosary will be held on Tuesday at 7:30 pm at the church. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to The Augustine Institute or a Catholic School of choice or Pregnancy Resource Center.
