Robert “Bob” J.  Spaanstra

Spaanstra, Robert "Bob" J. Robert “Bob” J. Spaanstra, age 92, of Grandville went to be with his Lord on Thursday, December 13, 2012, surrounded by his family.   Bob proudly served our country during WWII as a member of the US Marines in the Pacific Theater.  He worked as a salesman for Friden Calculators, a branch manager for Union Bank and a security guard for Bohn Aluminum in Holland.  He was a member of Olivet Reformed Church for 52 years and Beverly Reformed Church.  He was preceded in death by his first wife of 51 years, Esther (Van Sledright); his second wife, June Reminga; sister, Geraldine Timmer.  He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Marcia and Jim Deur, Jim and Sue Spaanstra, Bruce and Bonnie Spaanstra; 6 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; step children, Marlene and Larry Fry, Jim Reminga, Jan Gallagher; 9 step grandchildren; 13 step great grandchildren; sister, Eleanor Peters; many nieces and nephews.  Funeral services will be held on Sunday 3 pm at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home, (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Drive with Pastor Britt Hanson officiating.  Interment Rest Lawn Memorial Park.  Relatives and friends may meet the family on Saturday from 5-8 pm at the funeral home and on Sunday from 2-3pm prior to the service at the funeral home. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Georgetown Manor’s Baruch Senior Ministries.  The family would like to thank the staff at Georgetown Manor.
