
Richard James Sterba, age 91, of Byron Center, passed away on Friday, June 14, 2024. He grew up on a farm in Iowa. Dick proudly served in the U.S. Air Force in the Korean War. He loved traveling out west with his family. He retired after many years from working at Western Union and later Lee High School. After retirement, Richard loved playing guitar in the Korn Brothers band for many years. He also enjoyed Notre Dame Football, photography, Indy 500, and spending time at Marge’s Donut Den with his friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie; sister and brothers, Mabel, John, Paul. He will be lovingly remembered by his children: Barb Evers (Mike Podbregar), Jim (Yvette) DeJarnatt, Karen (Larry) Hagerman; grandchildren, Angie (Jason) Burchardt, Michael DeJarnatt, Melissa (Josh) Baumbach, Christopher (Ashlie) Evers, Alysha (Justin) Cowles, Kaylin Hagerman, and Matthew Hagerman; and many great-grandchildren; brother, Robert Sterba; many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at St. John Vianney Church, 4101 Clyde Park Ave SW, Wyoming, with Rev. John Vallier presiding. Burial will be held at Resurrection Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4031 Clyde Park Ave SW, Wyoming. Visitation will also be held Thursday from 10-11 a.m. at the church. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Creston V.F.W Post #3023.
