Richard Donald Cavner, age 93, of Hudsonville, passed away unexpectedly on April 4, 2017 and is now in the presence of his Lord, Jesus and is also reunited with his wife of 49 years, Nancy, who preceded him in death in March. He is also preceded in death by his son, Tim Cavner; parents, Donald and Lela Cavner and his brothers, Jack and Harold Cavner. He will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Mary Hallas Brandow, Bonnie Hallas; grandchildren, Jason (Stephanie) Brandow, Robyn (Dwayne) Porter, Jared (Martin Blessinger) Brandow, Charlene (Darrell) Cobb; 13 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Donna Briel, Betty Amshey; several nieces and nephews; dog and good friend, Scruffy. Richard proudly served his country in World War II in the Navy. He was employed at GM as a general foreman, was a 32nd degree in the Masonic Doric Lodge #342, and was a licensed captain of the Sea Dog. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 11 AM at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Drive SW, with Pastor Dean Wheeler officiating. Interment Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends may meet the family Friday from 6-8 PM and Saturday from 10-11 AM at the funeral home.
