Richard “Dick” Chester Miller, age 89, of Wyoming, passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Gladys Miller. He will be greatly missed by his children, Stephen Miller and Margarita Ortiz-Miller of Houston, TX, Christine and husband Byron Mumaw of Greenville, NC; grandchildren, Jennifer Mumaw Griess and husband Sean Griess, Heather Mumaw, Bethany Mumaw; great-granddaughter, Gwendolyn Griess; and his brother-in-law and his wife, Norman “Bud” and Juanita Carter of Middleton, MI. Richard was born in Mansfield, Ohio. After graduating from Detroit’s Denby High School in 1944, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps. proudly serving until November 1945. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University and got married to his college sweetheart, Katherine Mae Carter in 1949. Dick worked in the retail division of the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company for 33 years in Illinois, Minnesota and Michigan. He was active in Grand Rapids Kiwanis and the Wyoming, Michigan Police Department’s R.S.V.P. volunteer program for many years. He and Katherine were married for 64 years. They traveled the world together and enjoyed cheering for the Detroit Tigers and MSU Spartan athletics. Relatives and friends may visit the family on Friday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4031 Clyde Park Ave.SW, Wyoming. A graveside service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 am at Crystal Township Cemetery.
