Rev. Rick Oppenhuizen

Reverend Rick Oppenhuizen, age 70, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, January 6, 2023. Rick grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and received his Master of Divinity from Western Theological Seminary in 1979. He went on to faithfully pastor four congregations: Church of the Master in Warren, Michigan; Bethany Reformed Church in Kalamazoo, Michigan; Grace Reformed Church in Wyoming, Michigan; and Fair Haven Church in Hudsonville, Michigan. Rick was eager to share his love for the Lord and his sense of humor with everyone he met. He desired to lead as many people as he could to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Rick will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 47 years, Donna (Timmer) Oppenhuizen; children and grandchildren, Robin and Ray Zondervan (Caleb, Garrett, Nate), Sheri and Matt Camp (Charlie, Henry, Will), and Christy and Jon Cooper (Ainsley, Kai, Clay); siblings, Jim and Sharon Oppenhuizen, Cheryl and Bruce Rhoades, Debbie and Alan Stouten, and Lisa and Art Radlicki; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Carol and Jerry Dykstra, Nancy Timmer-Beach and Larry Beach, and Marilyn and Paul VanderWilp; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Rick was preceded in death by his parents, James and Rita Oppenhuizen; and his niece, Valerie Stouten. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 13, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Fair Haven Church, 2900 Baldwin St., Hudsonville, with Rev. Harvey Heneveld officiating. Relatives and friends may meet the family Thursday, January 12, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Down Syndrome Association of West Michigan (DSAWM) or Autism Support of Kent County (ASK).
