Randall Russell

Randall Russell, age 59, of Jenison, went home to be with his Lord, after a 22 month, courageous battle with ALS, on Friday, June 19, 2015. He will share heaven with his sister, Glenda Gerulis; nephew, David Warsen; and friend, Jeff Slachter who preceded him to his new life with Jesus. After graduating from Jenison High School, he served 4 years in the US Army serving throughout Europe and Turkey. Thereafter, he graduated from MSU and was an air traffic controller until his retirement at age 56, after which, he worked part-time at Cabela’s in Grandville. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in Montana with his sons, as well as, making memories at his new home on the lake in Jenison. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Pamela (DeYoung) Russell; his children, Robert Russell, Cody Russell, and Candie Palmer; grandchildren, Eliana and Lyla who called him Papa; his parents, Duke and Reatha Warsen; brothers, Gary and Ginger Russell, William and Lora Bomgaars, Doug and Tracy Warsen, David and Stephanie Warsen, Darryl Warsen; sisters, Judy Russell, Brenda Bomgaars, Debora and Tim Roobol; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jim and Connie DeYoung; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Amanda and Shane Moerdyk and their children, Mason and Blake; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Grief never ends, but it changes. It’s a passage, not a place to stay. Grief is not a sign of weakness. Not a lack of faith. It is the price of love. A private family memorial of life is being planned. If you would like to honor Randy, please consider a contribution to ALS or Cystic Fibrosis.
