June 7, 2026

James Vincent Kloosterman, age 79, of Allendale, peacefully went into the arms of Jesus his Savior on Sunday, June 7, 2026, surrounded by his family.

Jim will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years, Jo Ann Kloosterman; sons, Douglas Kloosterman and Daniel and Robin Kloosterman; grandsons, Henry Kloosterman and Jeremy Kloosterman; sister, Sandy and Tom Thurkettle; sister-in-law, Colleen Kautenberg; nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Jim Kautenberg.

Jim was born on September 10, 1946, to Arnold and Patricia Kloosterman. He attended Allendale Schools and graduated from Coopersville High School. Following graduation, Jim answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Navy. He served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Independence in the communications department, completing tours in Vietnam and throughout the Mediterranean region, including the Holy Land, Spain, and Italy. Between his two tours of duty, Jim married the love of his life, Jo.

After returning home from military service, Jim began a career with Bell Telephone Company, later Ameritech, where he worked for more than 20 years. Following an early retirement, he remained active and hardworking, pursuing a variety of endeavors, including operating as a self-employed telecommunications technician, working for other communications companies, investing in rental properties, and serving customers at Cabela’s, B2 Outlet, and most recently, True Value/Ace Hardware in Allendale.

He made friends wherever he went. Throughout the years, Jim has been very active in his church, serving in many capacities. Jim was Scoutmaster of Troop 39 in Allendale, and he was also very involved with Special Olympics.

He liked to deer hunt, turkey hunt, target practice, and camp when he had an RV. He and Jo loved vacationing in the U.P., but his most favorite activity was spending time with family.

He never lost his sense of humor, and his love for family and friends was deep and true. He was a man of integrity and character. Jim became involved in Set Free Ministries about three years ago, and his life was changed! He knew God had called him to serve with his brother warriors at Warriors Set Free. He was used by God until his last breath, and God is still using his testimony to bring others to Jesus. Jim will be sadly missed to say the very least, but he would want all to know that he is now with his Lord and Savior, in the Presence of the King of Kings!

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 1481 Baldwin St., Jenison, with Pastor Brian West  and Pastor Adam Peck officiating. The burial will be held at Blendon Township Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family on Friday, June 12, from 6-8 p.m. at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf, 6651 Scott St., Allendale. An additional visitation will be held on Saturday from 10-11 a.m. at the church prior to the service. The family wishes to thank the staff at Hospice of Holland for the loving care they provided.
