Ralph Homer Whitney

Ralph Homer Whitney, age 89, of Wyoming, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 surrounded by his family. Ralph was a veteran of the United States Army Airborne Division. He retired as a railroad clerk after 40 years of working for C&O Railroad. After retirement, he was a driver for Courtesy Dodge for several years. He was an avid outdoorsman, and loved camping, fishing, hunting and sitting around a campfire with family and friends. He also spent many years deer hunting in the UP. Together with his wife, Nancy, he enjoyed camping at Croton Township Campground for over 32 years. Ralph will be remembered for his caring and loving personality and his willingness to help anyone in need. He will also be remembered for his talented cooking and homemade peanut butter cookies. He cherished spending time with his wife, family, cat, Chessie and dog, Nikita. He will be especially missed for his friendship and love for his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Vera Whitney; son, Douglas Whitney; stepson, Garry Frye. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 38 years, Nancy Whitney; children, James “Jim” Whitney, Gledis (Cindy) Frye, Jamie (Cindy) Frye, Gilbert (Anita) Frye, Tammy (Bryan) Geurink; 8 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, July 28, 2023 at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4031 Clyde Park Ave SW, Wyoming, with Pastor Dennis Gilbert officiating. Burial will take place at Rosedale Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet the family Thursday, July 27 from 5:00 - 8:00 pm at the funeral home, as well as an hour prior to the service on Friday. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Elara Caring Hospice.
