Phyllis Johnson

Phyllis Johnson, age 82, went peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Monday, May 28, 2018, surrounded by her children after a courageous battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Don Johnson; her companion of 7 years, Bob Betten; her brother, Mart Hoogerland; her sister, Janet Longcore.  Surviving are her children, Bev and Mark Aman, Marv and  Sue Johnson, Deb and Doug Weeks, Mary and Ron Bailey, Sheryl and Doug Lewis, Norma Farrah, Kim and Todd Ringler, Jan Avery and Jeff Mox;  21 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; sister, Kay DeYoung; brother-in-law, Robert Berkenpas; special friends, Fred and Gloria Hoonhorst; several nieces, nephews and friends.  Phyllis enjoyed knitting, sewing and baking with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. A service to celebrate Phyllis’s life will be held at 11 am on Friday, June 1, 2018 at First Baptist Church, 1066 E. 8th St., Holland, with Rev. Bruce Sabados officiating. Interment Pine Hill Cemetery.  Relatives and friends may meet the family on Thursday from 5-8 pm at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Wyoming) 4031 Clyde Park SW.  In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society.
