Peter John Godfrey

Peter John Godfrey, age 84, of Rockford, passed peacefully at his home on Monday, June 12, 2023. Peter was born in New York, one of 9 siblings. After high school he entered the U.S. Navy. Upon finishing his service in the Navy, he obtained his bachelor’s degree in engineering at Michigan Tech University, and met his wife Judy. He worked for General Electric for 30 years which led him to move with his family across the United States and sometimes traveling overseas for work. After retirement, Peter settled with his family in Michigan but still enjoyed traveling and wintering in Texas. He was active in sports, golfing, was a lifeguard and ski-instructor and enjoyed crossword puzzles. Above all, his family was most important to him. Peter loved spending time with his wife, kids and grandkids. He was involved in his kids’ scouts and sports over the years, whether coaching when they were young or attending all of Patrick’s college football games. Peter was a devoted husband and dedicated father, taking every opportunity to cherish his family. He will be greatly missed for his big heart, witty sense of humor and love for his family. He was preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Mary Godfrey; brothers: Perry Godfrey, Phil Godfrey; sisters, Margaret McAleese and Patricia Brown. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 55 years, Judy; children: Lynn (Gilbert) Stonecipher, Deanna (Bart) Verbanic, Patrick Godfrey; grandchildren, Marylynn (Bruce), Ryan, Sydney, Aiden, Lou; siblings: Pamela Godfrey, Priscilla Paris, Donald Godfrey, Paul Godfrey; many nieces and nephews. Due to Pete’s wishes, no services will be held at this time. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to The American Alzheimer’s Association or Faith Hospice.
